Comment: Chancellor's Statement of 26th June 2023

Responding to Jeremy Hunt's statement, the SNP's Economy spokesperson, Stewart Hosie MP, said: "Although some of the Chancellor's statement is welcome, warm words will not ease the pressure on Scottish households.

"The UK government must review whether setting the inflation target alone remains the most appropriate target for the Bank of England to be working towards, and consider adding to the tools of the central bank to both control inflation and generate growth.

"However, regardless of the Chancellor's answers to these crucial questions, there can be no doubt that only the SNP is offering voters a real alternative through independence. "With independence, the Scottish Government could tackle the Westminster-made cost of living crisis head on, and rid Scotland of corrupt Tory governments once and for all."
