Delight as popular Dundee Decides project completed

Dundee East MP, Stewart Hosie, and SNP candidate in the North East by-election, Steven Rome, have welcomed the completion of a popular Dundee Decides project in the area.

The £20,000 Dighty, Fithie and Whitfield burn clean up received the most votes from residents in the North East ward during last year’s Dundee Decides, receiving 776 votes.

Dundee Decides, the biggest participatory budgeting scheme of its kind in Scotland, gave everyone living in Dundee aged 11 and above the opportunity to vote for projects in their area from play-parks, road improvements, pedestrian crossings, lighting and other infrastructure projects.

After a voting period of two months 11,472 votes were cast across the city.

As well as the Dighty, Fithie and Whitfield burns cleanup residents in the North East voted for measures to reduce traffic congestion around Fintry Primary School, Whitfield green skating/BMX improvements, Fintry Park-Dighty outdoor exercise equipment and new trees in Mill o' Mains park and Middleton Wood.

“The Dighty, Fithie and Whitfield burns clean-up was, understandably, a very popular project so I am delighted to see that it has been completed and that the burns are in good condition.”

“Residents made their voices heard loud and clear last year in the voting, so I welcome the news that 70% of all projects in the city will have been delivered by the end of April.”
