The Conservative Party's majority in the House of Commons has been slashed to one following a Lib Dem win in the Brecon and Radnorshire by-election.
With no parliamentary majority for a no-deal Brexit and a rise in support for remain parties and a 'People's Vote' the result is set to make life difficult for the new Prime Minister whose vision for Brexit is to leave, "do or die", by the 31st October.
Commenting, Dundee East MP, Stewart Hosie said:
"Boris, a Prime Minister without a mandate, could very easily find himself without a majority in the House of Commons."
"With a majority of only one he will have to rely heavily on his own MP's, something his predecessor was unable to do, and when there is a group of Conservative MP's utterly opposed to no-deal I don't see how this will be possible."
"There is no majority in Parliament for the harmful no-deal Brexit he is prepared to subject us to by Halloween and there is no majority for Theresa May's bad deal, which he himself both voted for and against."
"We've heard from numerous EU leaders who have said the deal will not be renegotiated and there is no getting rid of the backstop. It is time for this hapless Prime Minister to end the bluff and bluster and return this decision to the people, either in a General Election or a 'People's Vote'."
