    Dundee2023

I was delighted to seek support for the excellent Dundee 2023 bid for European Capital of Culture at PMQs on Wednesday. I asked the Prime Minister: "A successful bid by Dundee would create over 1,500 new jobs, boost the local economy by £128 million and add almost 5% to local GDP. "I hope the Prime Minister can put her views on Europe to one side and support a transformative bid from one of the most vibrant and forward thinking cities in the UK." I was also delighted to be at

    Scottish Fire & Rescue Service

Dundee East MP Stewart Hosie has re-iterated the call for the Scottish Fire & Rescue Service to be exempt from VAT. Mr Hosie said: I cannot understand why the Westminster government has refused to exempt the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service from value added tax (VAT), despite repeated demands from the Scottish Government and politicians of all persuasions. ... Rohingya Rally

    Rohingya Rally

On Sunday I attended and spoke at the Rohingya rally in Dundee City Centre. I am deeply concerned about the situation in Rakhine Province, and the plight of the Rohingya people and others caught up in this violence. It is vital that the UK is actively involved in securing a solution, both in terms of the provision of aid, and exerting influence on the government of Burma. Scotland stands ready to support the UK Government in providing an appropriate response to this situation
